The Benefits of Neurodiversity Coaching

With an estimated 15-20% of the UK population believed to be neurodivergent, empowering neurodiversity in the workplace is crucial for not only creating inclusive and psychologically safe environments, but also for helping organisations to tap into new talent pools and harness the talents of their neurodivergent employees.

According to research from the CIPD 2024 Neuro-inclusion at Work Report, while 83% of employers surveyed said the wellbeing of their people was a critical priority, only 60% said that neuro-inclusion was a focus for their organisation. Fostering neuro-inclusion and offering support solutions including neurodiversity coaching and one-to-one services such as workplace needs assessments is key to maximising the skills of neurodivergent individuals. These can include creativity, attention to detail, hyperfocus and problem-solving skills among others.

What is Neurodiversity Coaching?

Neurodiversity Coaching is a two-way process which gives individuals the opportunity to work with a dedicated coach who understands them, and can offer support to develop ways of recognising and playing to their strengths, as well as overcoming any challenges they may be facing in their role.

Lexxic’s world-first, dedicated Neurodiversity Coaching Centre of Excellence (CoE) offers a personalised approach that is designed to support individuals at every stage of their career, and throughout their own personal neurodiversity journey, covering two distinct specialisms.

Neurodiversity Development Coaching:

This is ideal for anyone in leadership or aspiring leadership positions, providing individuals with support so that they can feel confident in empowering their teams to maximise their personal and professional potential. Coaching options include Executive Coaching, Aspiring Leaders Coaching, and Manager Coaching among others. It also covers career development for individuals looking for general support to take the next steps in their career.

Neurodiversity Support Coaching:

Typically linked to workplace needs assessments, our support coaching offers individuals the option of one to one coaching around topics relevant to them including planning and organising, managing change, effective communication and many others. Support coaching can also be collaborative, involving employees and line managers in supported and facilitated coaching aimed at supporting the individual to identify their strengths and areas of challenge around neurodivergence. Support coaching options also include coaching around use of Assistive Technology (AT).

What Does a Neurodiversity Coach Do?

The Coaching Centre of Excellence (CoE) is led by Chartered Coaching and Occupational Psychologist, Dr Susie Phillips-Baker, and supported by a multi-disciplinary team of BPS accredited psychologists and professionally qualified coaches, many of whom have lived experience of neurodiversity. This allows our neurodiversity coaches to tailor and adapt the coaching services to meet the specific needs of the individual and the organisation.

Coaching is client led and so can differ depending on the type of coaching required. Clients may opt for an introductory call with a coach (offered as standard with our executive coaching package). However, for all of our services, the coach will spend time getting to know the client and crafting the coaching outcomes together. This may draw on information from a workplace assessment for example in our support coaching, as well as feedback or other sources as identified by the client. Discussions are confidential and psychological safety is developed to enable clients to be open and to feel heard, something which existing clients have recognised and appreciated.

How Can Coaching Help Me Develop in My Career?

Lexxic offers various coaching programmes designed to support individuals at different stages of career development. For those in the early to middle stages of their career looking for support in identifying their career goals, Neurodiversity Career Development Coaching utilises a strengths-based approach to assist with career planning, changes, or other career objectives.

For neurodivergent managers who are looking to take the next steps in their career, Neurodiversity Aspiring Leaders Coaching also supports individuals with establishing their career goals and objectives but offers additional support to help the individual manage challenges and thrive. Executive Coaching supports senior leaders and executives to navigate the challenges facing them in their roles, as well as understanding and nurturing their strengths in leadership.

Why Partner with Lexxic?

With over 16 years’ experience in supporting individuals, teams and organisations, the Coaching Centre of Excellence (CoE) is designed to support organisations in enhancing the skills of their employees and managers, helping to increase employee engagement, productivity, and retention, while individuals can build confidence, develop strategies for managing challenges, and maximise strengths in key areas.

Research has shown that psychological coaching approaches supported positive work-related outcomes such as goal attainment, self-efficacy, as well as evidence of increased self-awareness and wellbeing. The value of positive psychological coaching has also been demonstrated in research with neuro-minorities.
